Shin Yu-bin finished fourth in the women’s singles at the Paris Olympic table tennis tournament Saturday, falling short of her second medal in France after losing to Hina Hayata of Japan in the bronze medal match.
Shin, world No. 8, won the first game against fifth-ranked Hayata before going down 4-2 (9-11, 13-11, 12-10, 11-7, 10-12, 11-7) at South Paris Arena 4 in Paris.
Shin has now lost all five matches against Hayata.
Shin was trying to become the first South 추천 Korean table tennis player, male or female, to win a singles medal since 2004.
The 20-year-old won the mixed team bronze medal earlier in Paris. She will now compete in the women’s team event starting Monday.
After the two players split the first two games, Shin held a 10-7 lead in the third game, a point away from grabbing a 2-1 lead. But Hayata won five straight points to take the game at 12-10.
Hayata won the next game, too. Shin stayed alive by winning the fifth game 12-10 but bowed out in the sixth game
