GYMNASTIC STALWART KIM HAN-SOL WINS GOLD AHEAD OF ELBOW INJURY

Kim Han-sol’s gold medal performance in the men’s floor exercise at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games will go down as one of the highlights of his career after undergoing elbow surgery. Kim claimed the podium with a dominant 14.900 in the floor exercise final at the Huanglong Sports Center Gymnasium in Hangzhou, China, on Monday. She executed the difficulty level 6.0 skill flawlessly and with few mistakes, earning an 8.900 on the apparatus .She executed the skill exactly as it is listed in the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) technical scorebook and earned high marks for a near-flawless performance with no falls and only a few sideways steps .The silver and bronze medal-winning Chinese gymnasts performed skills with a difficulty level of 6.0-6.1, but were unable to match Kim’s 8.333 side-by-side score .It was the second straight Asian Games for Kim, who won the event at Jakarta-Palembang 2018. In her 11 years as a mainstay of the Korean gymnastics team, Kim has collected two gold, one silver and one bronze medal at the Asian Games .Kim’s gold medal was even more special as she overcame the double whammy of an elbow injury and being the first gymnast to perform in the final routine .Kim’s vaults and clean performances have helped the Korean gymnastics team improve on vault and floor. The team is currently competing at the World Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Antwerp, Belgium, during the same time as the Asian Games. With the team’s ticket to the Paris 2024 Olympic Games at stake, the KGA sent two teams to the Asian Games and one team to the World Championships in a bid to qualify for its ninth consecutive Olympic Games since Barcelona 1992.Injury was a factor in the decision to send Kim Hansol to the Asian Games as a “second team” gymnast, as he is on the same level as the first team, which includes Ryu Sung-hyun (Korea Gymnastics University), Lee Jun-ho (Jeonbuk Provincial Office), and Lee Jung-hyo (Armed Forces Athletic Corps), all of whom are strong in all six men’s gymnastics events .Kim suffered from left elbow pain for more than a year after last year’s National Championships. She was diagnosed with a bone spur that needed to be shaved off .But with the Asian Games and Olympic qualifying World Championships coming up in 2023, he couldn’t get to the operating table right away. Kim competed with her left arm in a sling .After winning her second Asian Games gold medal, Kim said, “I thought it would be a great help if I went to the World Championships, but I had to withdraw from the rings and bars events at the Asian Games because of my elbow injury.” “I was worried about demotivating my teammates at the important World Championships, and I thought it would be harder for them, so I have no regrets about not going to the World Championships,” she said. “I’m planning to have surgery right after this year’s national championships, but I want to play at the Paris Olympics next year first,” he said, adding, “If I train a lot again, I’m worried about recurrence, but I’ll give it a shot.”Kim is a veteran of the Korean national team, having competed in Rio de Janeiro 2016 and Tokyo 2020. With her experience and skill, she could be a solid addition to the 스포츠토토 team if she returns to form after her elbow surgery.
