South Korea, bidding for a third consecutive Asian Games gold medal, opened its men’s soccer group stage campaign at the Hangzhou 2022 Asian Games with an emphatic 9-0 victory. Hwang Sun-hong’s side cruised to a 9-0 victory over Kuwait in their men’s football Group E match at the Jinhua Sports Center Stadium in Zhejiang, China, on Monday .South Korea opened the scoring with an early goal from Jung Woo-young (Stuttgart) in the third minute of the first half, before exploding for four goals in the second half and five more in the third. Jung scored a goal in the 45th minute and another in the third minute of the second half to complete his hat trick in the match. Cho Young-wook (Gimcheon) also scored in the 19th and 29th minutes of the first half for a ‘multi-goal’ performance, while Baek Seung-ho (Jeonbuk) in the 44th minute, Uhm Won-sang (Ulsan) in the 7th minute, Park Jae-yong (Jeonbuk) in the 35th minute, and Ahn Jae-joon (Bucheon) in the second half added a goal each to make light work of Kuwait, which has been dubbed the ‘stomach bug of the Middle East’.
